Environmental Education Purpose
The
Little Traverse Conservancy recognizes the importance of environmental
education. For more than a decade, the Conservancy has offered programs
and activities to foster a greater understanding, appreciation and enjoyment
of the natural environment. I
n 2004,
more than 7000 students were involved in Conservancy education programs.
In addition to the students, more than 500 parents and teachers attended
and assisted with the activities.
The
Conservancy's environmental education programs reach approximately 50
schools, public and non-traditional, as well as homeschool groups and
scout troops. Some of the schools include: Brimley, Rudyard, Pickford,
Mackinac Island, St. Ignace, Moran Township, and Cedarville in the upper
Peninsula. In the lower Peninsula, classes from Petoskey, Harbor Springs,
Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Mackinac City, Indian River, Littlefield, Pellston,
Boyne City, Ellsworth, East Jordan, Beaver Island, and Boyne Falls have
been involved in our programs.
