SUMMARY:Vernal Pool Patrol Volunteer Field Training
DESCRIPTION:Join LTC staff to explore the wonderful hidden life of forest ponds in spring, from turning over logs in search of salamanders, to getting your boots muddy and finding frogs, freshwater shrimp, and more. You will learn how to be a vernal pool monitor as part of the statewide effort to survey and protect these ephemeral and diverse wetlands. The temporary nature of these wetlands and their small size (under 5 acres) excludes them from state wetlands protection policy. As a community scientist you can contribute meaningful data and observations toward protecting vernal pools from destruction. Bring knee boots, dress for the weather, and bring a bag lunch and water. If you have polarized sunglasses bring them also. We will provide monitoring kits and all necessary equipment. It is recommended that you complete the classroom training before attending the field training, but not required.\n
