Size
60 acres
Land Description
What was for years a farm field will be actively restored as a native meadow, hardwood forest, and oak savanna, beginning in the fall of 2022. See map below for full restoration plan.
Trail Description
For years this beautiful land was farmed. Fall of 2022 will be the last year of farming and the beginning of a transition back to the
native plant and tree species of this region. Given this transition, there are no trails currently planned for this property.
History
Protected in memory of Dave Irish, one of Little Traverse Conservancy’s original founders. Along with other forward thinking people from our community, Dave saw the importance of balancing development of northern Michigan, with conserving it. His vision lives on. In Dave’s memory, a 60-acre nature preserve has been established just outside of Harbor Springs. An iconic farm field, rolling hills, and a few majestic maples stand out in your view. All those who stepped forward to support this project are keeping Dave’s spirit and vision alive by continuing the work in which he so deeply believed.
Directions
This preserve is found less than two miles north of downtown Harbor Springs and just northeast of the intersection of State and Quick Roads. While there are no trails, an informal pull-off can be found along State Road.
