History

A lead gift from the Harris and Melvin families along with several other donations - including the Burt Lake Preservation Association and the Carls Foundation - made the 2019 protection of this preserve possible. Burt Lake is highly popular for cottages and boating and lies along the Inland Waterway. The Inland Waterway flows from Emmet County all the way to Lake Huron where it empties near Duncan Bay in Cheboygan.
