History

Nathan Beem loved Six Mile Lake. It was on the Chain of Lakes that Nathan spent long summer days fishing from his kayak and spending nights laughing around the campfire with family. His time outside on the lake inspired him to study Natural Resources Law Enforcement and later serve in the U.S. Coast Guard. Six Mile Lake was a place where Nathan felt safe and home. In 2018 at the age of 21, Nathan’s life was cut short.

Nathan frequently talked about his future and desire to own property on the lake someday. His parents approached the Little Traverse Conservancy in hopes of naming a nature preserve in memory of their son, the closest they could get to helping realize Nathan’s long held dream.
