Land Description
A large portion of West Park is wetlands and the remainder is largely wooded. East Park is more open and developed.
Trail & Facilities Description
Both parks provide access to Lake Michigan from the LIttle Traverse Wheelway and US-31. West Park - found just north of the Bay Shore gas station - provides a picnic area right next to the lake. East Park includes bathrooms, a large pavilion, trails, playground, and picnic tables on a bluff overlooking Little Traverse Bay. The pavilion can be rented through the township website: www.resorttownship.org
History
In 1995, LTC worked with the Bay Harbor Company, Emmet County, and Resort Township to establish these two parks as part of the development of the Bay Harbor community. East Park was formerly a roadside park maintained by the Michigan Department of Transportation. It is now owned and managed by Resort Township.
Directions
From Petoskey, take US-131 south to Gruler Road. Turn right (west) and follow to park entrance.Directions: From the intersection of US-31 and US-131 in Petoskey, head west on US-31 for 1½ miles to the entrance of East Park. To get to West Park from the same intersection in Petoskey, travel 6.3 miles to the village of Bay Shore and turn right on Townline Road to the park entrance on the right.
