History

For many years, this land was used by the public to access the beach. Over the years, concerns arose regarding protection of the historic and tribal cemetery that is located directly adjacent to the church. Beginning in 1993, a partnership of Readmond and Friendship townships, the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, the Catholic Diocese and Little Traverse Conservancy began working to address these concerns. LTC assisted the townships with an application for funding from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund to purchase the land from the Catholic Diocese. LTC also preacquired adjacent land to provide public parking for those wishing to access the beach. In ensuing years, the townships were able to secure funding to construct the parking and boardwalk that exist today.

From the intersection of M-119 and Robinson Road in Good Hart, head north on M-119, and almost immediately take a left on N. Lamkin Road. At the bottom of the hill, turn left and travel one mile to the parking adjacent to St. Ignatius Church.
