Wild Shores Initiative

Conserve Great Lakes Shoreline

WILD SHORES

The Wild Shores Initiative aims to acquire large, natural Great Lakes shoreline properties, primarily in the Upper Peninsula and on many of the islands, where there are significant conservation opportunities at affordable prices. These lands are typically robust in conservation value and are essential areas for many species, including migratory birds. This initiative is home to a revolving group of worthy shoreline projects.

PHASE I COMPLETE!

Thanks to a final matching grant by the Carls Foundation and a significant gift from the Chauncy & Marion Deering McCormick Foundation, we exceeded our Phase I goal of $1.5 million in just a year and a half! Projects funded in Phase 1 included:

  • Over 1.5 miles of Great Lakes shoreline

  • 287 acres

  • 3,000 feet of shoreline on Great Lakes tributaries

INTRODUCING PHASE II

The work is not over! We are taking your support as a sign that we can do more. By exceeding our initial goal, you have seeded Phase II of the Wild Shores Initiative. We are currently fundraising to meet our next cumulative goal of $3M. Right now, you can help protect an additional 43 acres, 320 feet of Lake Superior shoreline, and 1,900 feet on the Shelldrake River. See brochure above for more details.

PHASE II PROJECT GOAL: $3,000,000
